Gordon Graham
Gordon Graham is a retired 33 year veteran of California Law Enforcement. During his tenure as a police professional, he was awarded his Teaching Credential from California State University, Long Beach. He was later graduated from University of Southern California with a Master's Degree in Safety and Systems Management.Subsequent to this he was graduated from Western State University with a Juris Doctorate. He has taken this background as a street cop, supervisor and manager and coupled it with his formal education as a risk manager and his education and experiences as an attorney and is the Co-Founder of Lexipol – a company designed to standardize policies, procedures and training within law enforcement agencies around America.
Dr. Jeffrey Ho
Dr. Jeffrey Ho is a board‐certified emergency medicine physician and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the Academy of Emergency Medical Services. He practices clinically at Hennepin Healthcare, an urban Level 1 trauma center in Minneapolis where he serves as the Vice‐Chair for Emergency Department Operations. He is a licensed peace officer in the state of Minnesota and currently serves with the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office as their medical director. Dr. Ho has served as a medical director/operator of an urban SWAT team, and has over nine years of reserve military experience. He holds the academic rank of Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota and is the medical director for Axon Enterprise, Inc. where he leads a cadre of researchers in studying human behavior and effects of non‐lethal weaponry and use of force physiology.
Dr. Michael Graham
Dr. Michael Graham is a physician board-certified in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology. He is a Professor of Pathology at St. Louis University where he directs the Division of Forensic Pathology. He served as the Chief Medical Examiner for the City of St. Louis, MO for 34 years and serves as a medical examiner for multiple counties in the St. Louis metropolitan area. He is a Fellow and past-president of the National Association of Medical Examiners; Fellow and former chairman of the Pathology/Biology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences; and a Fellow and former chairman of the Forensic Pathology Committee of the College of American Pathologists. In 2017 he received the College of American Pathologists’ Lifetime Achievement Award. He has particular interest and expertise in the forensic aspects of cardiopulmonary pathology and evaluation of deaths that are temporally related to law enforcement apprehension and custody.
Dr. Don Dawes
Dr. Don Dawes is a diplomat of ABEM and practiced emergency medicine for 23 years and is now the site medical director for an urgent care in So CA. Dr Dawes is also a reserve police officer and SWAT tactical physician for a SWAT team in So CA. He is also an external medical consultant to Axon Enterprise, Inc. and has published numerous studies on the effects of TASER energy weapons as well as arrest physiology. His educational background incudes a B.S. in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a M.D. from Duke University. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA program in Torrance, CA.
John Jerry Glas
John Jerry Glas is the Chair of the Civil Litigation Department at Deutsch Kerrigan. Jerry is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has tried 117 civil or criminal trials, including 79 jury trials. Jerry has been admitted pro hac vice in 10 states and had success on both sides of the aisle. In 2021, as lead trial counsel for the plaintiff (Lindale Pipeline, LLC), Jerry obtained a $26 million verdict in Houston. In 2012, as lead trial counsel for the defendant (TASER International, Inc.), Jerry obtained a zero verdict in St. Louis, which was listed by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as one of that year’s “Largest Defense Verdicts.”
Cory Brente
Cory Brente began his legal Career over thirty-nine years ago. He served as a Deputy District Attorney for Stanislaus County (Modesto, CA) and for Shasta County (Redding, CA). In 1988, Mr. Brente joined the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office as a criminal prosecutor. In 1991, he was a founding member of the Police Litigation Unit (PLU), whose mission is to defend LAPD Officers in civil lawsuits alleging police misconduct (i.e. excessive force, false arrest, unlawful search and seizure). He has served in PLU for over thirty-one years, and is currently the supervisor of the unit.
Kimberly Overton Spahos
Kimberly Overton Spahos is the Executive Director and Chief Resource Prosecutor for the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys, where she is directly responsible to the 42 elected District Attorneys for the development of programs, materials, and consensus building. She will be presenting on how prosecuting agencies can address the widespread challenge of recruiting and retaining talented attorneys by fostering a culture of appreciation, team cohesion, and professional growth
Michael Fermin
Michael Fermin is the Chief Assistant District Attorney in San Bernardino County. He oversees the administrative operations of the District Attorney’s Office, including business administration, personnel, budget, victim services, and information technology, and serves as the liaison to myriad governmental agencies. He will speaking on the topic of “Using Today’s Tools on Yesterday’s Cases”
Paul Taylor
Paul Taylor is police academic, consultant and trainer who studies decision-making, human factors, and system safety in the context of police interactions with the public. His award-winning studies have been published in top rank academic journals. Paul is also the founder and lead instructor for the Association of Force Investigators. He has over ten years of practical law enforcement experience including time as a department training manager, patrol sergeant, and use-of-force instructor. Paul regularly serves as expert witness and has delivered law enforcement related instruction for academy, field training, and advanced in-service audiences as well as graduate and undergraduate level courses. Paul is actively engaged in law enforcement research and training across the United States and regularly presents at both academic and practitioner conferences.
