Evidence map

In Pro organizations, administrators and users who are allowed the Evidence Search permission have access to the Evidence Map feature. The map shows icons for any evidence that has location information.

The map icon used for an evidence file is determined by the evidence type. There are six icons that correspond to file types:

  • Video
  • Audio
  • Document
  • Image
  • Firing Log
  • Other

To view the Evidence Map:

Select Evidence and then select Evidence Map.

Searching from the evidence map

To search for evidence from the map:

  1. Enter your search filter parameters.The Location filter is shown by default. Select Show Advanced Search to see additional filters.
  2. Specify the filters that you want to apply:
    • Location:
      • Enter an address, city, or zip code.
    • User:
      • Enter a name or badge ID to display matching users, and then select a user from the list.
    • Date:
      • Enter a start and end date.
    • Category:
      • Select the categories that you want to include on the evidence map.
  3. Select Search.

The evidence map shows only the evidence that matches the filters you specified.

Evidence map actions

The following table describes the basic actions that are available on the evidence map:

Action Steps
Pan
  • Position the mouse pointer over the map.
  • Click and hold the mouse button.
  • Move the mouse to pan the map.
  • Optionally, click Redo Search in this Area to see additional evidence in the new map view.
Zoom In or Zoom Out
  • In the map, click the + or - icons to zoom in or out.
  • Alternatively, if your mouse has a scroll wheel:
    • Position the mouse pointer over the map.
    • Rotate the mouse wheel to zoom in or out.
  • If needed, click Redo Search in this Area to see additional evidence in the new map view.

Viewing evidence details

When you select a map icon, the map centers on that icon and shows a dialog box with information about the evidence. You can:

  • Select View Evidence to go to the evidence details page.
  • Select anywhere on the map to close the dialog box.

Find your way around the map

Each evidence item with location data is shown as a pin on the map. The pin reflects the starting GPS location of the evidence file (for example, where a recording began).

  • Hover over a pin to see a preview of the evidence, including the timestamp, device type, and title.
  • Select a pin to highlight that evidence in the list.
  • Select evidence in the list to highlight the corresponding pin on the map.

When multiple evidence items were recorded in the same area, you'll see a numbered group pin. Select a group to zoom in and reveal individual pins.

Select View evidence path to display a visual trail between pins that are part of the same recording or incident.

As you pan or zoom the map:

  • The evidence list updates automatically to show only the evidence in the visible map area.
  • Pins are group pins update automatically to match the area you are viewing.
  • Any visible paths update based on the evidence in view.
