Wildcards in the License Plate field

Character Meaning Example
* Matches any number of characters AB*1*3 -> AB5143
, Search multiple plates at once ABC123, DEF456
? Matches any single character A?C123 -> ARC123
[ ] Matches any character in the set A[B8]C[L1]23 -> ABC123

Search settings

  • Confidence Level - controls the threshold for AI-detected attribute matches (Very Low-Very High; default High). Only affects results when Vehicle Detail filters (Color, Make, Type, Additional Details) are applied.
  • Show Partial Matches - toggle in the results toolbar for lower-confidence plate reads.
  • Include Shared Data (New) - extends the query to partner-agency detections once a sharing relationship is active. Results pulled in from a partner agency are marked with a small triangle share icon in both Card and List view, so you can tell them apart from your own agency's reads at a glance. This same distinction is captured for audit purposes - both the Internal ALPR Activity and Network ALPR Activity reports have an "Includes Shared Data" column recording whether a given search pulled in shared data. See ALPR Sharing for setup, and the Source filter's "Shared" count to confirm shared results came back.
Confidence setting Description
Very High Strictest matching. Only returns results where AI confidence in vehicle attributes is very high.
High (Default) Standard high-confidence matching. Recommended for most searches.
Medium Moderate confidence. Returns more results with slightly lower precision.
Low Broader matching. Useful when searching with limited vehicle information.
Very Low Widest net. Returns the most results but with lower attribute accuracy.

Hotlist filter

The Hotlist Filter limits results to plates that matched a watchlist, so you only see hits relevant to your investigation.

To limit results to watchlist matches:

  • In the Hits / Reads section of the search panel, enable Hits only - this removes non-hit reads and activates the Hits by Hotlist dropdown. (When Hits only is off, the dropdown is disabled.)
  • Click Hits by Hotlist to select one or more lists (defaults to All Hotlists), then click Search.
  • Click any result to open the detail panel; Hotlist Details shows the category, priority, and registration state, with vehicle and owner details below.

Interpreting and interacting with results

Results display in Card View (default) or List View. Use Show Map to visualize detections, with Search this Map (re-run search to the currently visible map area) and Draw Rectangle (manually draw a bounding box) tools, useful for narrowing to a specific neighborhood, intersection, or corridor. Use Hide Map to close the map panel and return to the full-width results view. Use the Source filter to select which ALPR sources are included.

Viewing full details

Click on any result card or list row to access the full details panel, which includes:

  • Confidence scores - percentages for vehicle make, body type, color, and other features (e.g., SUV 97%, Mercedes 93%, Black 82%).
  • Actions - Search this plate, Send to Vault, Download Image, Download Plate, Show on Map.
  • Tabs - Map tab shows the detection location; Read List tab shows all reads for that plate over the last 7, 14, or 30 days.

Source device management

Click the Source dropdown in the results toolbar to filter by ALPR data source. Each source displays its detection count for the current search.

Source Description
All Axon All Axon-connected sources combined
Fleet 3 Mobile ALPR on patrol vehicles
Outpost Fixed ALPR cameras at specific locations

jenoptik.vector Jenoptik Vector cameras
Vigilant Vigilant Solutions camera network
Flock V3 Flock Safety V3 camera network
Other Any other connected source

Exporting search results to CSV

Agencies can export ALPR search results for external analysis and record review. Exports support up to 31 days of results within the agency's retention period and up to 20 million records per export; large exports may be delivered as multiple files. You'll receive an email upon completion; completed exports expire after 1 week.

Exporting search results to PDF

Besides CSV, you can export results as structured PDF reports - either a bulk export of up to 100 results, or an individual record export of a single detection.

Bulk PDF export

  • Run your search with the desired filters (offense category, time range, plate, etc.).
  • Click Export (top-right of the results page) and select PDF.
  • Review the confirmation dialog and click Export. A toast confirms the job started, and you'll receive an email when the PDF is ready.

Shared data is excluded from bulk exports - only your agency's detections are included. If every result is from a shared source, the bulk export is blocked.

Individual record export

To export a single detection, hover over its result card, click the ... (more options) menu, and choose the PDF export. Unlike bulk export, an individual export includes shared data when present, clearly labeled with the originating agency.

Retrieving exports

Exports process in the background. Go to Main Menu > LPR > Exported Results to view and download. Each entry shows started/finished time, processing time, status, expiration date, file size, and type.

Status What it means
In Progress Export is generating; download not yet available.
Complete File is ready - click the download icon.
Failed Use the retry icon to regenerate the export.

Exports expire 7 days after generation; after that, run a new export. Original full-resolution images can be downloaded separately via the ... menu on each card.

What's in each PDF report

Each detection record includes: report header (agency, export date, exporting user); license plate and state; the detection image; timestamp, GPS coordinates, and nearby address; vehicle attributes (color, make, body type); device info (provider, type, name); a location map; and search context (offense category, reason, case number).

Downloading photos from results

Each read or hit can include up to two images depending on the data provider - a wide-angle image (the full scene) and a cropped image (a tight crop on the vehicle). Open the Vehicle Details pane to see one or two thumbnails for a read. When two images are present, clicking Download Image downloads both together, regardless of which one is currently displayed.

Note:The Vehicle Details pane shows how many images are available for a read.

  • Quick download - click the ... (more options) menu on a result card, then Download Image.

  • Preview first - in the Full Details panel, click View larger on a thumbnail, toggle between wide-angle and cropped in the modal, then click Download Image.

Hit alerts

When a detection matches a plate on an active hotlist, it's flagged as a Hit. Filter results to show only hotlist matches using the Hits Only toggle in the search panel. Matching results display a distinct visual indicator on the card or list row, and hotlist matches can trigger real-time notifications to assigned officers or dispatchers - see ALPR Hit Alerts.

Case Number configuration

Administrators can control how the Case Number field appears in the search panel from the LPR Search Settings page in Axon Evidence. The available options are:

  • Don't show the Case Number field
  • Show the Case Number field, but make it optional
  • Show the Case Number field and make it required
