The NIBRS transition and what it means for your community
Join Erica Smith from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) at the US Department of Justice, who will discuss the work her agency is doing to highlight the utility of the detailed crime data reported to the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). This webinar will cover the following products under development at BJS, including:
- Fact sheets and infographics highlighting what law enforcement agencies can expect when they transition to NIBRS
- Multiple Interactive reports on topics of importance to law enforcement practitioners and policymakers
- Preview of the National Crime Statistics Exchange (NCS-X) data dashboard, which will allow users access to local crime data, comparative analytics, and custom data downloads, among other options

Erica has spent nearly 20 years at the US Department of Justice in various leadership roles. She is currently Unit Chief of the Law Enforcement Incident-Based Statistics Unit at BJS, and she and her staff lead the National Crime Statistics Exchange (NCS-X) Initiative, working directly with local agencies to transition to NIBRS reporting. Through NCS-X, Erica and her team are developing different product types to showcase the importance of incident-based crime data from law enforcement agencies.
