Making the case: Axon’s vision for responsible innovation in public safety

We see ourselves as a technology company committed to making the world a safer, less dangerous place. We’re focused on providing tools that help prevent violence, hold people accountable and address the complex challenges of modern society.

AI in policing?

We’ve long been committed to advancing public safety through cutting-edge technology, enhancing officers’ capabilities while respecting the ethical responsibilities that come with it. Over the years, we’ve introduced AI into our solutions with the aim of reducing the time officers spend on routine tasks so they can focus on what matters most—serving their communities. Our newest AI-powered tool, Draft One, truly exemplifies this mission by generating the first draft of police reports from body-worn camera audio, offering officers a significant reduction in paperwork so they can be more present in the field. At this year’s IACP conference, we unveiled Axon’s next wave of AI innovations, from smart image capture and crime scene analysis to automated form-filling and real-time translation through Axon Body 4.

As we continue to deepen our commitment to innovation in public safety with Axon AI, we’re excited to share more around our vision for responsibly advancing this technology to serve communities transparently and impactfully. We asked Freethink, an independent media company spotlighting world-changing ideas and technology, to help us tell our story of how AI can be transformative in policing and how we aim to be at the forefront of that development responsibly. Key to our development is collaboration with our Ethics and Equity Advisory Council (EEAC), bringing in diverse community feedback to ensure our technology serves everyone fairly.

At Axon, responsible innovation is our guiding principle, driving us to develop products that are truly a force for good. As Rick says, “There isn’t any aspect of human society that AI won’t impact, and as we work to thoughtfully shape this technology, we’re committed to asking not just what could go wrong, but what could go right.” This forward-looking mindset defines our vision at Axon—a safer, more trusted future for all.
