    The Covenant School Tragedy: The Nashville Mass Shooting Event from the Officer's Perspective

    This presentation will discuss the tragic events on March 27, 2023, when a mass shooting occurred at the Covenant School, a Presbyterian Church in America parochial elementary school in the Green Hills neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee by a lone gunman, a former student at the school. Attendees will hear from one of the first-on-scene officers who engaged the mass shooter during the active killer event. You will learn about the events leading up to the active killer event, the tense moments on scene trying to locate the active killer, and best practices and lessons learned from the officer's perspective.

    Introduction of TASER 10 to Iceland

    Iceland is considered to be the safest country in the world according to the Global Peace Index, but there has been a significant increase in violent crime since 2020. The Icelandic police is not armed on a daily basis, so implementing the TASER was a necessary step in order to increase both public and officer safety. The former minister of Justice faced both political and public criticism for administrative handling of the rollout, which attracted negative media attention. In this presentation, Iceland PD will talk about their implementation process of TASER 10. We will share valuable insights from how we handled the negativity in the media, public education, and our process for training every single police officer in Iceland within 5 months. In conclusion we will talk about how training and operational procedures have evolved since the first training course in 2024.
