What is the Guardian: Approach Project?

The goal of Guardian: Approach is to provide officers with an alert when the system detects approach-related cues around a stopped patrol vehicle. These cues may include vehicle doors opening, people being detected near the vehicle, and estimates of whether a person is moving into the officer’s vicinity. These alerts are intended to help officers respond appropriately and with greater situational awareness.

The Guardian: Approach Project is in the training and testing phase of the Guardian system. During this phase, we will record videos of vehicles and people in real-life conditions, with the sole goal of adjusting the system. This training stage will allow us to detect errors or variables that may affect the system's accuracy.

Where are Operations Happening?

To minimize the risks of compromising the privacy of any individual, we inform of the schedule of upcoming tours of our vehicles.

The purpose of the project is to test and evaluate the performance of our product in real-life conditions, considering the characteristics of various vehicles and conditions (weather, or lighting, for example) that may affect its accuracy, with the ultimate goal of improving it.

2. PURPOSES AND LAWFULNESS OF THE PROCESSING

The purpose of the Guardian: Approach project is to train the Guardian system by recording videos of vehicles and people in real-life conditions, with the sole goal of adjusting the system. This stage of training and testing in real-life environments will allow us to detect errors or variables that may affect the accuracy of the Guardian system.

For clarity, the cameras will not be connected to any device, network or similar that will allow us to determine the identity of either the current driver or the right holder of the vehicle, or any person whose image may be incidentally captured.

The lawfulness for conducting the activity previously described lies on the legitimate interests of Axon, which consists of the need to test, train, and develop its products and services in real-life conditions within the territory in which such will be offered at a later stage.

Given the purpose and necessity for processing, as well as balancing the rights and freedoms of data subjects, Axon relies on its legitimate interest.

3. DATA RETENTION PERIOD

The video records captured will be kept for the duration of the training, testing and evaluation phase of the Guardian system, including the subsequent analysis of the quality of the captured information. Axon will remove from the video records any accidentally captured information not necessary for the development of the Project, limiting itself to analyze and keep the relevant event data (e.g., door open events and associated video clips). The retention period of this information will be limited to the time necessary for the development of the project and will be removed when it is no longer needed for the evaluation of the Guardian system.

4. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS OF PERSONAL DATA

No international transfers of personal data will be conducted.

6. RIGHTS OF THE DATA SUBJECT

As the data subject, you have the right to contact Axon, at any time and free of charge by writing to [email protected] to exercise your rights regarding data protection and, specifically, the following:

●      Access to your personal data.

●      Object the processing of your personal data.
