Chief Walther was originally hired by the Scottsdale Police Department in July 1994 as police officer and over his 24-year police career found himself in the positions of Patrol Officer, Detective, SWAT Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Training Lieutenant, McKellips District Commander, Downtown District Commander and Assistant Chief of Police until his retirement in May 2018. In December 2020, he was called out of retirement to be request from the City Manager where he currently serves as the Chief of Police.
