Maintain the trust you’ve earned

Modern public safety agencies increasingly depend on connected technologies to operate effectively, and protecting sensitive community and operational data is part of using them well. When technology is built with clear governance, accountability and built-in safeguards, it strengthens the public trust agencies rely on. Agencies need technology that improves safety and efficiency while reinforcing privacy, transparency and public confidence. Axon builds to that standard, which means deciding not just what to build, but what to delay and what not to build at all.

Secure by design

Keep sensitive data secure while maintaining ownership and oversight.

Protecting sensitive public safety data requires more than security features alone. It requires technology designed for clear ownership, controlled access and accountability, giving agencies confidence that they remain in control of how their data is managed, accessed and protected.

With Axon your agency stays in control:

  1. Your agency owns its content: the evidence, records and files it creates and uploads

  2. Nothing is shared by default

  3. Access happens only at your agency's direction

  4. Axon does not create national databases or enable automatic sharing across agencies

Responsible Innovation Framework

Key safeguards

These safeguards are supported by foundational principles designed to help agencies maintain control of their data while supporting accountability and responsible access.

Isolated by design

Every agency has its own environment across Axon products, including Axon Evidence, logically separated from other agencies on Axon Cloud Services. This separation gives each agency control over its own data.

Principle of least privilege

Each agency decides which of its users can access its data, and gives each person only the access their role requires. Agencies manage this through their own admin settings and can update it as roles change.

Controlled process

No government body, federal, state or otherwise, has standing or direct access to agency data. If Axon receives a request for agency data, Axon routes it to the agency as the data owner and discloses data only where legally required to do so.

Public safety purpose-built

Axon has spent decades building for public safety, and the public safety industry is our core focus rather than one vertical inside a broader portfolio.

Trusted partnership

Axon's Ethics & Equity Advisory Council brings outside experts in civil rights, AI ethics and public policy into how our products are built, with that input shaping product and policy decisions on an ongoing basis. Learn more about the EEAC.

Customer-controlled retention

Agencies define how long their data is kept, who can access it and when it is deleted. Axon provides configurable retention, audit and access controls so data governance stays aligned to agency policy, legal requirements and community expectations.
