Role-based device settings

Role-based device settings allows administrators to configure device settings by role.

Historically, Axon device settings have been one size fits all: device settings applied to all devices registered to that agency. Role-based device settings lets you configure device settings by role.

Admins create unique copies of the Device Settings page, called Device Settings Profiles.

  • Configure the settings in each profile as unique as you need it.
  • Associate a profiles with a role.
  • Devices assigned to users in that role inherit the settings of that profile.

To explore roles and permissions in Axon Evidence, select Admin > Roles & Permissions.

Users must have the Edit Agency Settings permission to create and edit device settings profiles.

FAQs

What happens if a role is assigned to an AB4 device settings profile and there are users in that role without AB4 camera(s) assigned to them?

Nothing will happen to the users. If a user is later assigned an AB4 camera, it will inherit the settings associated with that role’s assigned profile.

If I change the default profile, will other profiles automatically get that change?

No. Profiles can be based on another (duplicated), but one is not a sibling of the other. Changes to any profile apply only to that profile, included the default. If a changes is needed in all profiles, it must be made and saved in each individual profile.

What happens when Axon adds a new item to the settings page?

A new feature and device setting will appear in all device setting profiles. All profiles are set to the default for that setting (disabled or enabled). Each profile can be changed individually.

What happens if a role is deleted?

Any cameras assigned to users in the deleted role are reassigned to the default profile.

What devices are supported by role-based settings?

As of March 2024, this feature applies only to Axon Body 4 and Body 3 cameras.

How long does it take for a camera to receive its settings once a new profile-role assignment is made?

When a device settings profile has changes in the setting values or has a new role assigned to it, it will take up to 30 minutes for the associated cameras to receive the configuration when the camera is docked. To apply settings faster, undock and redock the camera to receive the new configuration in as soon as two minutes.

Are there settings that can't be configured with a device setting profile?

Only one. Currently, Axon Application Upload can only be controlled agency-wide in the default profile due to its existing implementation and how the setting interacts with Axon applications. This setting may become configurable in a future release.
