Malware scanning in Axon products

It is critical to limit the possibility of software viruses. Evidence uploaded from non-Axon devices to Axon products, such as Axon Evidence or Axon Justice, undergo a scan for malware when the files are ingested. Evidence that passes the scan can be managed normally.

Currently, the maximum file size for the malware scan is 60GB. Larger files will not be scanned.

Evidence with malware scan in progress

If a file has been submitted and the virus scan is still in progress, a warning is shown if a user tries to download the file.

Evidence that fails the malware scan

Files that failed the scan are not repaired, to preserve the integrity of evidence. Axon's storage technology doesn't execute any uploaded files, so there is no danger of the malware infecting other files or affecting your device.

Files that fail the malware scan can only be downloaded by users with theDownload Infected Files permission set to Allowed. The user is shown a warning message informing them that the file did not pass the malware scan. If they want to download the file, the user selects a check box acknowledging the risk and can download the file.

If the user doesn't have the necessary permissions, the Download button will be inactive, and they will see the message "Blocked: our scanner detected malware in this file. Downloading requires the "Download Infected Files" permission."

Sharing evidence that failed the malware scan

Files and Cases with evidence that did not pass the malware scan can be shared inside your agency, with partner agencies, and by download link.
