Configure geofencing for Auto-Tagging

Geofencing for auto-tagging uses GPS data and geofencing to enhance the accuracy of evidence tagging. By automating the tagging process, it reduces the need for manual effort and helps prevent clerical errors. Implementing geofencing for auto-tagging improves evidence management, ensuring accurate tagging and easy retrieval of critical footage.

To enable and configure geofencing for auto-tagging to best fit your organization's workflow, contact your Axon representative.

Key features

  • Automatically link evidence records to calls for service (CFS): Using GPS data and geofencing around dispatch locations, auto-tagging automatically links evidence records to the corresponding CFS with higher accuracy, even during busy shifts when officers handle multiple calls.
  • Apply CAD metadata to evidence using GPS coordinates: Automate the tagging process to apply CAD metadata evidence more accurately using GPS coordinates, geofencing helps prevent clerical errors that could lead to lost or mislabeled evidence.
  • Customize geofencing parameters: Customize geofencing parameters to best fit your workflows:
    • Set the radius around dispatch locations (minimum 50 meters).
    • Define the percentage of video that must fall within the dispatch locations geofence.
    • Exclude specific locations from geofencing like hospitals or police headquarters.

Device compatibility

Geofencing only works with evidence from devices that capture GPS throughout the recording, such as Axon Body 3, Axon Body 4, and Axon Fleet models.

Geofencing matching criteria

Geofencing for auto-tagging uses specific criteria to match calls:

  • Geofence match: Tags evidence from calls that pass all geofence criteria.
  • Best geofence match: If multiple calls pass the criteria, the call with the highest percentage of area within the geofence radius is tagged.
  • Start time proximity match: If no calls pass the criteria, the call with the start time closest to the evidence's recording start time is tagged.

Getting started with geofencing for auto-tagging

  1. Enable geofencing: Contact Your Axon Representative to start using geofencing for auto-tagging. They will help you enable geofencing and configure its parameters to suit your organization's needs.
  2. Set geofence parameters: Work with your Axon representative to set the following parameters:
    • Radius: Define the radius around dispatch locations, with a minimum of 50 meters for optimal accuracy.
    • Duration: Specify the percentage of footage that must occur within the geofence radius around the dispatch location.
  3. Exclude specific locations: You can exclude certain locations from geofencing, such as hospitals or police headquarters, to prevent irrelevant data from being tagged.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How do I set the geofence radius?

The geofence radius can be set with a minimum of 50 meters. Work with your Axon representative to define the appropriate radius for your organization's needs.

How is the percentage of footage within the geofence calculated?

The percentage is based on the duration of the footage that falls within the defined geofence radius around the dispatch location.

Can I exclude specific locations from geofencing?

Yes, you can exclude locations such as hospitals or police headquarters. Contact your Axon representative to configure these exclusions.
