Evidence details page

Evidence in Axon Evidence includes all digital files uploaded or ingested into the system—such as video, images, audio, and documents. From the Evidence section, you can search for evidence, view file details, manage metadata, organize by cases or tags, and take actions like sharing, downloading, and redacting. Roles and permissions determine which features are available to each user.

The evidence details page

  1. Select Evidence, and then choose how you would like to search - All Evidence, My Evidence, or Shared Evidence.
  2. Enter search criteria to search for the evidence you need. Learn more about how to search for evidence.
  3. Select the title of the evidence you wish to view to open the evidence detail page.

Use the main evidence actions to:

  1. Edit the evidence title, ID, or category - Select Edit to make changes. Learn more about editing and character limits.
  2. View evidence with the same ID - If other evidence in your organization has the same ID as the evidence you are viewing, it will be listed under the title.
  3. Use the buttons above the media player to:
    • Download evidence and transcript - Select Download to download the evidence and transcript. Learn more about downloading evidence and download speeds.
    • Draft One - Select Draft One to open Draft One and generate a narrative for that evidence file. Learn more about using Draft One.
    • Reassign evidence - Select Reassign, in the 'Reassign evidence' window, enter the last name, first name, badge ID, or email address of the person you want to reassign the evidence to, and then select Reassign. Learn more about reassigning evidence.
    • View the evidence audit trail - Select Audit Trail, select a Date Range, choose whether you wish to include Confidential Activity, and then select Download. Learn more about the audit trail and audit trail events.
    • Delete evidence - Select Delete, in the Delete window, select Remove, enter a reason, and then select Submit. Evidence that you delete is added to a deletion queue for 7 days. This help prevent the unintentional deletion of evidence. Learn more about deleting and restoring evidence,
    • Flag evidence - Select Flag (flag icon) to flag evidence you want to find more easily. Learn more about how to flag or unflag evidence and filter by the evidence flag status.
    • Content warning - Select Add Content Warning (eye icon) to add or remove the content warning from a piece of evidence. Learn more about content warnings in Axon Evidence.
  4. Manage access and share evidence - Select the Edit and Share buttons to manage evidence access within your agency and share it outside the agency. Learn more about managing internal evidence access and external evidence shares.

Use the media player and tabs to interact with evidence:

  1. Use the media player - Interact with the evidence using the media player. Learn more about using the media player.
  2. Switch among the tabs to the right of the media player to:
    • View the Transcript - Select the Transcript tab to search the transcript or select Edit Transcript to open Transcription Assistant. Learn more about using transcripts.
    • Detect People - Select the People tab to quickly detect people within video footage. Learn more about Smart Detection.
    • Manage Clips & Markers - Select the Clips & Markers tab to create clips and markers for specific points in the file. Learn more about working with clips and markers.

Adjust additional details about the evidence, including:

  1. Switch between the tabs to:
    • Manage redactions - Select the Redactions tab to access Redaction Studio or Redaction Tools to redact portions of the evidence. Learn more about Redaction Studio and redaction tools.
    • Extract overlays - Select the Overlays tab to extract a version of the evidence that contains metadata overlays. Learn more about metadata overlays.
  2. Edit evidence description - In the Description area, select Edit, enter a description, and then select Save.
  3. Add, edit, or delete notes - Under Notes, enter a note, and then select Post Note. The note, along with the author, date, and time the note was created or updated appears in a list below the Notes area. From here, select Delete or Edit to remove or modify a note.

Finally, in the panel on the right side of the page below the evidence map, use the pencil icons to adjust the evidence metadata, including:

  1. Edit evidence location - Under the map, next to the location, select Edit (pencil icon) enter or add a location, enter a Friendly Name, and select Save. Learn more about evidence location and map coordinates.
  2. Evidence Certifications - Select Add New Certification or Upload Scanned Certificate to update certification records.
  3. Recorded on date and time - In the Recorded On box, select Edit (pencil icon). Select a date and time from the calendar and clock picker, and then select Save. If the change affects the retention period, you'll be asked for confirmation. Learn more about how to edit the recorded on date and time.
  4. Evidence group - In the Evidence Group box, select Edit (pencil icon) to open the Update evidence group dialog box, select an Evidence Group from the list, and then select Submit. Learn more about groups and group membership.
  5. Custom Metadata - Organization-specific metadata fields appear in the Custom Metadata section. Select Add to create a new field or select Edit (pencil icon) to update an existing one, and then select Save. Learn more about custom metadata.
  6. Associated Cases - Next to Cases, select Edit (pencil icon), enter a case ID to associate with the evidence, and then select Add to Case. Learn more about how to add evidence to a case.
  7. Categories - Next to Categories, select Edit (pencil icon), select a category from the list, and then select Save. Learn more about adding categories to evidence.
  8. Tags - Next to Tags, select Edit (pencil icon), select a tag from the list, and then select Save. Learn more about tagging evidence.
