Map search
Map search lets you explore and filter evidence by location using an interactive map. You can search by address, apply filters to refine results, and view where each piece of evidence was recorded along its path of travel. This provides a visual way to identify patterns, find nearby incidents, or locate recordings from a specific area.

Open map search
Use map search when you want to explore evidence tied to GPS data, like body-worn camera recordings, vehicle uploads, or mobile capture. The map shows evidence markers at recorded locations, allowing you to zoom in and out, and pan across areas.
- Select Evidence, and then find the evidence you want to work with. Enter search criteria to narrow the results, or select Saved to apply a saved filter—like My evidence, Shared with me, or a custom saved search.
- You can switch to Map view at any time to open the map. The map displays up to 50 results within the visible area, even if your search returns more evidence. Each pin represents an evidence file with location data captured in that map view radius. You can continue applying or adjusting filers while in Map view.

Find your way around the map
Each evidence item with location data appears as a pin on the map. Each pin represents the midpoint of the recording's visible path of travel within the current map view.
The map opens to a radius containing the clusters of the first 50 results in the list. Evidence returned in the list had a location point captured in the radius of the map view.
The results number indicates how many pieces of evidence were recorded in the filters applied and had a location point captured in the radius of the map view.
As you apply filters or zoom in, clusters automatically update and break apart into individual pins.
Map search includes autocomplete for addresses and areas in the location search bar.
- Hover over a pin to see a preview of the evidence, including the timestamp, device type, and title.
- Select a pin to highlight that evidence in the list.
- Select evidence in the list to highlight the corresponding pin on the map.
When hovering on a pin, its details open and the corresponding row in the evidence table is subtly highlighted.
When multiple evidence items were recorded in the same area, you'll see a numbered group pin. Select a group to zoom in and reveal individual pins.
Use the zoom controls on the map to zoom in or out, or manually drag the map to pan to a different area. When the visible area changes, a Search in this area button appears. To update the pins, select Search in this area. The map refreshes to show evidence within the new view.
The map and evidence list remain synchronized. As you pan, zoom, or apply filters, the list automatically updates to show only evidence within the visible map area.
If you apply filters that limit results, you will need to select Search in this area to refresh pins in the current view.
Hover over a pin and select Path to view the route or travel path associated with a recording. The map displays a visual trail between location points captured during the recording. For optimal performance, map paths use sampled coordinates (approximately every 250 feet for body-worn video and every 1,000 feet for Fleet recordings).
When an evidence path is enabled, pins not included in the path are temporarily hidden until the path view is turned off.
To close the path view, select Path again or select another evidence item from the list. The map returns to its standard view showing all visible pins.
As you pan or zoom the map:
- The evidence list updates automatically to show only evidence within the visible map area.
- Grouped pins update automatically to match the area you are viewing.
- Visible paths update based on the evidence in view.
FAQ
General map behavior
How many results appear on the map by default?
By default, the map displays up to 50 evidence results within the visible area. These pins represent the first 50 items from your evidence list that include GPS data and fall within the current map radius. If your search returns more than 50 results, the evidence list still shows the full set, but only the first 50 appear as pins on the map. As you zoom or move the map, pins update automatically to match the visible area.
How are evidence pins positioned on the map?
Each pin represents an evidence file with GPS data. The pin is placed at the midpoint of the visible path of travel within the current map area—not just at the start or end of the recording. For example, if a recording travels from west to east, the pin appears at the center of that route when viewed on the map. If you move the map or enter an address closer to the end of the route, the pin’s location updates to show the segment visible in that new area.
Why don’t all path points appear on the map?
To maintain system performance, map search displays sampled coordinates rather than every GPS point in a recording. For body-worn video, coordinates are sampled roughly every 250 feet. For Fleet recordings, coordinates are sampled about every 1,000 feet. The evidence detail page displays the full path of travel, while the map view on the search page shows these sampled points for faster loading.
How do I see the path of travel for an evidence file?
Select a pin on the map to open its preview, which shows details such as the evidence ID, title, owner, and recorded date. From the preview, select Path to overlay the route of travel on the map. To close the path, select Path again or choose another evidence file. When a path is visible, pins not included in that path are temporarily hidden until you exit path view.
Search and filter on the map
Can I use filters with map search?
Yes. Map search supports all available filters and saved searches from the standard evidence search page. Filters applied in the search panel also refine the evidence displayed on the map. You can combine map-based search with filters like Recorded on, Owner, or Category to focus on specific locations and timeframes.
What happens when I move or zoom the map?
When you move, drag, or zoom the map, the visible results may change. To refresh the pins and list based on your current view, select Search in this area. The map updates to show only the evidence visible within that region.
Does the map automatically refresh when I apply new filters?
No. When you apply new filters that change the evidence set, you must select Search in this area to refresh pins in the current map view. This ensures that map results always reflect your selected filters and location range.
Synchronization and visibility
How do the map and evidence list stay in sync?
The evidence list and map remain synchronized at all times:
- Selecting a row in the list highlights its pin on the map.
- Selecting a pin highlights its corresponding evidence in the list.
- As you pan or zoom the map, the list automatically updates to show evidence within the visible map area.
Why are some pins grouped together?
When multiple evidence items are recorded in the same area, the map displays a cluster showing the total number of items in that region. Clusters automatically separate into individual pins as you zoom in or apply filters that reduce the total result count. Clusters appear when more than 100 results are available in the view.
Why does the map look different from the evidence details page?
The map view on the evidence details page shows the complete path of travel for a single recording. The Map Search view shows sampled points and may appear simplified for better performance when displaying many results at once. Both views use the same GPS data.
Why don’t I see some evidence items on the map even though they appear in the list?
Only evidence with location data appears as pins on the map. Evidence without GPS metadata (for example, manually uploaded files or imported documents) still appears in the evidence list but not on the map.
How can I refresh results to see the latest evidence?
If evidence has recently been added or modified, select Refresh in the evidence list to reload both the table and map with the latest information. This updates timestamps, statuses, and pin locations without reloading the full page.
Why do I see evidence farther away than I expected?
The default map view shows all evidence that fits within the visible area, which may include recordings from nearby regions. Zoom in or apply additional filters (for example, Owner or Recorded on) to focus the results.
