Buffer extractor tool
Axon Interview uses a 24/7 recording buffer that can store weeks of continuous audio and video recordings. This feature protects against the loss of interviews where the interviewer forgot to start recording.
Use the Buffer Extractor Tool to retrieve interview recordings from the recording buffer. While while most often used to recover video that was not recorded, it's also useful to adjust the video end time if the interviewer forgot to end the session.
This video explains how to use the Buffer Extractor Tool.
-
Select Axon Buffer Extractor on your desktop or from the Start menu.
-
Enter your Axon Evidence Username and Password, then select Login.
Overview
The tool's interface is comprised of separate tiles:
-
Interview Info – Select the date range and devices for extraction.
-
Metadata – Select the metadata that will be applied to the videos that are extracted from the system.
-
Servers Info – Shows the currently active system servers and provides access to long system recordings.
-
Status Info – A running log of buffer tool actions, warnings, and errors.
Extract a video
If the interviewer forgot to click Record, the buffer may have you covered.
Note: Depending on the selection criteria, extracting and uploading a video can take a long time.
-
In the Interview Info tile, select or enter a Start and Stop Time for the video to extract.
-
Select Add to choose the devices associated with the video to extract.
-
Select each device to include in the extraction, then Add Devices. To remove a device from the Devices table, choose it and select Remove.
-
In the Metadata Info tile, select Add to select the metadata to apply to the extracted videos.
-
In the Tags dialog box:
-
Select or enter the Name of the metadata tag.
-
Enter or, for Choice tags, select the Value for the metadata tag.
-
Select Add Tag.
-
-
To add more metadata, return to step 4.
-
Select Extract at the bottom right. The system searches the server for video information that meets the criteria you specified and downloads it to a workspace folder in the Buffer Extractor folder.
The folder name is a combination of the device name and request date-time. After extraction, the videos are merged, placed in an MP4 container, and uploaded to Axon Evidence with the user that signed into the Buffer Extractor Tool listed as the owner.
Once the upload to Axon Evidence is complete, the local buffer files are removed from the Workspace folder.
Set recording end time
If a user forgets to end an interview, use the Buffer Extractor Tool to set an end recording time for the video.
-
In the Servers Info tile, double-click on the Server IP address to open the Recordings dialog box.
-
Select Refresh List to see the list of long recordings.
-
Select the recording to edit and then Edit Recording Time.
-
Enter the correct end time for the interview and Save.
