Configuration settings

Warning Configuring Interview requires administrator permissions.

Adjust Interview configuration settings to make Interview work best for your organization.

Interview was properly configured when it was initially set up most settings should not be changed. Usually settings are only changed to add or edit metadata tags and rooms. This section only addresses settings you might commonly changed; if not addressed here, contact Axon technical support for assistance before making changes.

The ability to access Interview Configuration is enabled when it is set up. If the Config button is not available, the client configuration must be modified.

Open configuration

  1. Sign into Interview Room.
  2. Select Config.
  3. Enter the admin Password.
  1. On the Configuration window, select a yellow tab at the left to edit that information.
  2. When you are finished with changes on one or more tabs, select Save and Close.

Time zone

  1. Select the General tab.
  2. Select the appropriate Time Zone.

Metadata tags

Use the Tags tab to add and edit pre- and post-recording metadata tags. These tags are applied to video recordings and included when the recordings are uploaded to Axon Evidence.

Add a Metadata Tag

  1. Select the Tags tab.
  2. Select Add Tag.
  3. Enter a new Tag Name. This is the name shown to users either pre- or post-recording.
  4. Select the Tag Type.
  • Text – Provides a freeform text field for entering metadata.
  • Choice – Offers a list of options you provide; users can select only one.

If you offered choices, you need to list them.

  1. Right-click in the Choices area and select Add.
  2. Enter a choice Tag Value.
  3. Enter a Severity of 1–50. This determines the order in which videos are uploaded to Axon Evidence.
  4. Repeat from step (a) to add more choices for this tag.
  5. Select Save.
  6. Select the Enabled setting.
  • False – The tag is not shown to users.
  • True – The tag is shown to users, but optional.
  • Forced – The tag is show to users and required.
  1. Select the Display Mode for the tag: pre- or post-recording.
  2. For a Text Tag Type, select Set Severity. This determines the order in which videos are uploaded to Axon Evidence.
  3. Select Save. The tag information is added to the list of Tag Settings.

Synchronize category metadata tag with Axon Evidence

Whenever categories are added or updated in Axon Evidence where digital evidence is stored, mimic the changes in Interview.

  1. Select the Tags tab.
  2. Select the Categories tag and then Edit Tag.
  3. Right-click in the Choices area and select Sync with Axon Evidence (Evidence.com). Interview checks the Axon Evidence categories for your organization and updates the list.
  4. If a category is not needed for in Interview, right-click it and select Delete.
  5. Select Save.

Edit a metadata tag

You can change some properties of a tag other than Tag Name or Tag Type.

  1. Select the Tags tab.
  2. Select the tag to edit and then Edit Tag.
  3. Edit tag information as needed.
  4. Select Save. The updated tag information appears in the list of Tag Settings.

If a tag is no longer needed:

  • Change the Enabled setting to False, or
  • Change the Display Mode to Do not display.

Rooms

Use the Rooms tab to add and edit room information, devices, and notification settings.

Add a room

  1. Select the Rooms tab.
  2. Select Add New Room and configure the following settings on the Add New Room window:
  • Enter a descriptive room Name. This is room name shown in the Axon Interview Client.
  • Set Enabled to Yes.
  1. Select Add New Device and configure the following settings on the Add New Device window:
  • Enter a Device Name, such as Main Camera, Camera1, or Camera2.
  • Set Enabled to Yes.
  • Set Primary Device to Yes or No as desired.
  • Set Live Stream Source to Wowza.
  • For Rtsp Url, enter the camera IP address using the sample format shown in the field.
  • If you are using Axon Portable Interview, you can enable SD Cards for backup recording.
  • Enter the admin and stream Username and Password.
  1. Select Save to return to the Add New Room window.
  2. To add an additional device, return to step 3.
  3. When done adding devices for the room, select Save.
  4. To add another room, return to step 2.
  5. When done adding rooms, select Save.

Edit a room

  1. Select the room to edit and then select Edit Room.
  2. On the Edit Room window, edit settings as needed.
  3. To edit camera or microphone information, select the device and then Edit Device.
  4. Edit device settings as needed.
  5. Select Save to return to the Edit Room window.
  6. When done editing the room, select Save.

Adjust microphone gain

The microphone gain, aspect ratio, and special protocols are controlled by the server. Changes made from the camera web interface will be overwritten by the server. Any changes must be made on both the primary and secondary recorders.

  1. Select the Rooms tab.
  2. Select the applicable room and then Edit Room.
  3. Select the applicable camera and then Edit Device.
  4. Select Audio Settings.
  5. Select the appropriate Audio Input Gain from the list.
  6. Select Save on each dialog box to return to the configuration page.
  1. Select Save and Close to save the changes.

Display the 1-Click Marker button

The 1-Click Marker button lets users add a marker during an interview without having to add a description.

  1. Select the Client App tab.
  2. Set Display 1-Click Marker Button to Yes.
  3. Select Save.

Storage Settings

The storage settings let you set minimum free disk space requirements to continue or start an interview, as well as enable visual and audio warning notifications on the Interview Client when the disk space reaches the set limit.

  1. Select the System tab.
  2. In the Storage Settings section, set the three space requirements as desired.
  3. Optionally, enable an audio alert when levels are low.
  4. Save your changes.

Mobile interview kit power management

Power Management Settings enable visual and audio notifications on the Axon Interview Client when the Mobile Interview Kit battery power drops below configured levels.

  1. Select the Power tab.
  2. Select Enable Power Management, then set the battery level information for each option.
  3. Save your changes.

Software updates

Axon Interview v4.0 and later monitors and controls version updates using Axon Server Updater, a separate program installed along with Axon Interview.

Axon Server Updater shows the current status of your agency interview servers. When a new version of Interview is available, the Update Servers button is active.
