Livestreaming

The Axon Livestreaming application lets authorized users securely view and listen to a live interview without being in the interview room. Livestreaming relies on your organization's local network and continues to function during an internet outage.

Sign in

This video explains how to sign in to the livestreaming application.

  1. Select Axon Livestreaming on your desktop or from the Start menu.
  2. Enter your Axon Evidence Username and Password, then select Login.

Application overview

The livestreaming app has four tabs on the left side.

Tab Description
Home Landing page. Also displays server connection status.
Live Main working area. Contains the room panel, overview panel, and in-room experience.
Settings Add, edit, or delete a server connection and modify configuration options.
Logout Sign out of Axon Livestreaming.

Room panel

The Room panel on the Live tab shows all configured interview rooms for your system. You can filter rooms by name, status, or location.

The status indicator to the right of each room name shows the current room state.

Indicator Meaning
Red Interview is being recorded.
Green Room is ready for an interview.
Purple Room is streaming only — no buffer is being captured. This typically indicates a server failover condition. See Livestreaming.
Grey Room is inactive.

A warning icon next to the status indicator means an error is associated with the room. A lock icon next to the room name means the room is locked during an active interview.

View a livestream

View a room in the overview panel

  1. On the Live tab, select Add Rooms. If rooms are already displayed, the button shows Edit.
  2. Select the overview panel tile to use, then select Add for the room to display.
  3. Repeat for additional rooms and select Done.
Note

If you do not select a tile, Interview uses the next available tile. If all tiles are in use, it uses the top left tile.

Open the in-room experience

This video explains how to configure metadata in the livestreaming application.

  1. On the Live tab, select the room name in the left panel. The room automatically appears in the overview panel.
  2. In the in-room experience:
    • Select Volume to choose which camera provides audio output.
    • Select a camera tile to expand its view.
    • Select Return to go back to the Live tab.
Note

If the interviewer engages a video or audio mask, the livestream reflects the same mask.

View a password-protected interview

If your organization uses password protection for livestreaming, you need the streaming password generated by the interviewer.

  1. Request the streaming password from the interviewer. They can generate it from the Live Recording screen.
  2. Select the room name on the Live tab.
  3. Enter the password and select Enter Room.

Stop livestream

This video explains how to stop a livestream.

  1. Select Edit at the top right.
  2. Select Remove for the room.
  3. Select Done.

Close the livestreaming app when you are finished viewing an interview.

Apply metadata

Authorized observers can add notes and markers during a livestream. These are included with the interview video when it uploads to Axon Evidence. Notes and markers can only be added while an interview is in progress.

  • Note: A general description that does not link to a specific point in the recording.
  • Marker: Flags a specific moment in the recording so it can be located later.

If you add a note or marker while using Instant Playback, it is placed at the point in the timeline you were viewing, not at the live moment.

Control a PTZ camera

If a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera is connected to the interview room, you can control it from within the in-room experience without entering the room.

  1. Open the in-room experience by selecting the room name on the Live tab.
  2. Select the PTZ tab (located next to the Metadata tab).
  3. Use the directional controls to pan and tilt the camera.
  4. Use the zoom controls to zoom in or out.
Note

PTZ controls are only available when a PTZ-capable camera is configured for the room. Contact your admin if you expect to see PTZ controls but do not.

Instant Playback

Instant Playback lets you review footage from earlier in the current session without leaving the livestream. It is available when the room is using Event-Based with Buffer recording mode, which maintains a continuous background buffer.

  1. In the in-room experience, select Instant Playback.
  2. Use the timeline to scrub to the point you want to review.
  3. Select Play to watch the buffered footage.
  4. Select Live to return to the live view.
Note

Any notes or markers added while viewing Instant Playback are placed at the timeline position you were viewing, not at the current live time.

The interview must be in progress for 2 minutes before Instant Playback will be enabled. When markers are added, after 2 minutes, the play button on those markers will instantly start playback from that moment.

Failover behavior

If your system uses paired servers (automatic failover) and the primary server becomes unavailable during an active livestream, the livestreaming application responds as follows.

  • The room status indicator turns purple, indicating the room is streaming only and the background buffer is not being captured on the affected server.
  • The livestream continues from the available server. No manual action is required to maintain the live view.
  • Recording on the redundant server continues uninterrupted.

A purple status does not mean the interview has stopped — it means one server is unavailable. Notify your admin so the server issue can be investigated.
