Record an interview
Once logged in you are at the Main menu. Select Start Interview to begin.

Metadata
If your agency requires entry of metadata before you can begin recording the interview, the Pre-Recording Metadata screen appears with the metadata tags your administrator has configured.
If your agency does not require the entry of metadata tags before you can begin recording the interview, skip to Start Recording.

For each pre-recording metadata field, select the field and type the required information.

Select Next.

Select one applicable category to add it to the metadata.

Select Next.

If any of the information is incorrect, select Back and correct it.

If everything looks right, select Start Recording.

Start recording
Note: For v3.8 and later, if your Axon Interview system does not have a secondary recording server, you will be asked to confirm that to start the recording.
After entering the metadata or skipping it, select Press to Start Recording.
The interview is now recording, evidenced by the Live Recording screen.
Live Recording screen
- Interview information appears above the video player.
- The recording view shows the room video currently being recorded.
- The current time and date is at the bottom of the room video.
- If your system has two cameras associated with a room, the image from the second camera appears. Select this view to alternate cameras.
- The sound bar indicates the sound volume inside the interview room.
Action buttons
- Create Marker – Used to mark and add descriptions for important events during the interview.
- 1-Click Marker – Used to mark important events during the interview without a description. This function may not be enabled.
- Monitor Sound On – Allows you to hear what Axon Interview is recording.
- Streaming Password – Generates a password for the Axon Interview Live Streaming application.
- Mask Audio – Prevents Axon Interview from recording audio.
- Mask Video – Prevents Axon Interview from recording video.
- Mask Audio/Video – Prevents Axon Interview from recording both audio and video.

Notifications
These are some common notifications encountered during recording.
Long recording
Interview displays a notification when the interview runs longer than the set time interval.
If you dismiss the message, the timer displays a red clock icon.
Add a marker
To mark an important event during the interview, you can use the marker function. There are three potential ways to add a marker.
Create Marker button

Select Create Marker.

Enter an Event Type and Description.

Select Save.
Use the 1-Click Marker button
Select 1-Click Marker to add a marker to the recording video.
Use the Push Button
This requires that your agency install a wired push button. To add a marker, press the button.
Monitor sound

Select Monitor Sound On.

Select Monitor Sound Off.
Stream password

Select Streaming Password.
-
Select Generate.
-
Select Copy to share the password.

Select Close.
Mask audio
-
Select Mask Audio to stop audio recording.

Select Unmask Audio to resume recording sound.
Mask video

Select Mask Video to stop video recording.

Select Unmask Video to resume video recording.
Mask both audio and video

Select Mask Audio/Video.

Select Unmask Audio/Video to resume recording.
Lock the panel

Select Lock.
-
Select Unlock.
-
Enter your username and password and select Login.
Stop recording
If you stop a recording, you cannot resume the current recording session.

Select Stop Recording.
-
Select whether to stop or cancel.
Add post-recording metadata tags

Add a value for each metadata field.

Select Next.
-
Review all post-recording metadata.

Select Finish.
View asset summary information
- Metadata Information – Shows the metadata provided before and after the interview recording.
- Recording Information – Shows data about the recording itself, including any markers you created.
