Local codecs
Local codecs are software components that allow Axon Investigate to decode and play proprietary video formats that standard media players may not support.
Some security and surveillance systems store video in unique formats that require special decoding tools. Installing these local codecs ensures Axon Investigate can process and display these files correctly, even when other players can’t.
If you're using Axon Investigate to review videos from proprietary sources (such as surveillance systems, DVRs, or specialized cameras), installing local codecs may be necessary to do the following:
- Ensure proper playback of certain video formats
- Fix missing video or audio issues
- Accurately display evidence as originally recorded
Some video files, such as those from March Networks and other proprietary systems, may not play back locally without these codecs. Without the codecs, you may experience errors, missing frames, or inability to open the video in Axon Investigate.
Local codecs are not required for Axon Region Discovery. However, certain proprietary formats cannot be processed in the cloud because the necessary codecs cannot be integrated into the online system
