Because hotlists are flat-file extracts from live databases, they start becoming stale the moment after they are generated. Common practices within law enforcement to mitigate stale lists include:
- Daily hotlist updates – Hotlists are updated daily or even multiple times per day to mitigate the potential for a nuisance alert or bad stop.
- Hit alert validation – It is standard policy for officers to review hotlist alerts and run the plate against live systems via CAD or call to dispatch prior to making a stop.
ALPR, while very accurate, can't prevent every nuisance alert:
- Axon ALPR reads plate numbers with over 90% accuracy. However, it does not identify plate state/province. Because many U.S. states use common character combinations, alerts can result from plates with the correct characters but from the wrong state.
- ALPR occasionally reads objects that are not license plates, which will also produce an alert if the characters match a hotlisted plate. Axon ALPR works very hard to minimize these occurrences, but they are not completely unavoidable.
Unlike traditional ALPR systems, Axon ALPR is broadly deployable, often across entire patrol fleets. Nuisance alerts that are tolerable among a small number of vehicles may be unacceptable in fleet-wide deployments. The Snooze Alerts feature helps you mitigate the effect of nuisance alerts.
Snooze an alert
- When you encounter a stale or inaccurate hit alert, select the appropriate Action taken, such as Not Stolen or No Action Taken.

Select Snooze
at the top right of the alert window. This disables alerting against this hotlist record for the period defined by your agency (12 hours, 24 hours, or indefinitely) across all Fleet 3 systems operated by your agency.Note Snooze applies to the hotlist record, not the plate number. If the plate exists on other hotlists used by your agency, those will still generate alerts.
Receive Snooze notification
If your user profile has Hotlist Management permission you can enable email notifications of Snoozed hotlist records.
- Sign into Axon Evidence and select your profile, then Notifications.

- Toggle ALPR snoozed alert notification on to receive an email when an alert has been snoozed.

Snooze from record search page
These steps require your user profile to have ALPR Record Search permission.
- Select ALPR, then Fleet Search.

- Select a hit record to open the detail pane.

- Select
Snooze Alert at the top left. - Select a snooze duration.

- Select Update. The snooze icon will indicate the record is snoozed. The record will be listed on the Snoozed Alerts page and includes plate number, owner, state, alert category, action taken, hotlist name, and expiration. Records snoozed from the Record Search page have an Action Taken of None.
Cancel snooze or change duration
These steps require your user profile to have ALPR Record Search permission.
- Select ALPR, then Snoozed Alerts.

- Select the checkbox of the desired record(s). To select all, use the box in the header.

- Select Update snooze duration or Delete (cancel) as needed.
- Alternatively, select a plate number to open the hit record detail pane and then
Unsnooze Alert to cancel it and resume alerts. - On the detail pane, select View associated records to return to the record search page ready to Search that plate number. The pre-populated search reason will be Snoozed record search.

Select
Unsnooze alert to cancel the snooze and begin receiving alerts again.
