Deep Research overview

Coming Soon

Deep Research is coming soon to the AI Era plan and will appear on the case details page in the redesigned Axon Evidence. It is currently part of an alpha release. This means it is still being developed, and is available to select organizations for testing and feedback. As an alpha feature, functionality is not fully polished, and adjustments can occur based on input. If you would like to participate in this alpha release, contact your Axon representative. Learn more about Alpha and Beta features.

Deep Research helps you review case evidence and ask questions in one place.

It analyzes indexed evidence, like PDFs, audio files, and video transcripts, and returns answers with citations so you can verify the source.

Use Deep Research to find information faster. It does not replace your judgment or make legal conclusions.

Access to Deep Research depends on your organization's plan:

  • Deep Research requires the AI Era plan, and a Pro license with Unlimited Auto Transcription and Document Text Search enabled.
  • Deep Research respects existing access permissions. You can only review evidence you are allowed to access (for example, your own unrestricted evidence).

How Deep Research works

When you start Deep Research for a case, Axon Evidence indexes the supported evidence in that case. After indexing is complete, you can ask questions and review responses with citations.

If Deep Research cannot answer your question with confidence, it lets you know instead of providing an unsupported response.

Deep Research chat sessions and any case context you add are only used during that chat. They are not automatically added to case notes or to case or evidence audit trails.

Supported evidence

Deep Research supports the following evidence types:

  • Machine-readable PDF documents
  • Audio files
  • Transcripts extracted from supported video
Note

Images contained within PDFs are not included in analysis.

Citations and verification

Each response includes citations to the source evidence. Select a citation to review the related evidence.

Indexing and availability

Deep Research indexes supported evidence before chat is available. During indexing, you cannot ask questions.

  • Analysis is limited to a single case.
  • Currently, a maximum of 200 supported evidence items can be included. This is expected to increase over time.

When indexing is complete, the case is ready for analysis.
