Auto-Transcribe overview

Video and audio evidence are central to every investigation, but the sheer quantity of this evidence increases the time officers and prosecutors must spend reviewing it—plus it can be mentally draining to repeatedly listen to disturbing audio or see graphic images

Axon Auto-Transcribe, with the transcript on the evidence detail page and Transcription Assistant, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate the review and transcription of evidence, creating significant time and cost savings.

With Auto-Transcribe, you can use a computer-generated transcript that is ready within minutes of uploading the evidence to Axon Evidence, rather than waiting hours, days, or weeks for a human-generated transcript. You can then view the video, audio, and transcript for a piece of evidence on one screen in Axon Evidence. This "hypermedia player" enables powerful connections and efficiencies during the evidence review process.

You no longer have to watch every moment of digital evidence. Instead, review the AI Transcript Summary or scan the transcript to quickly understand what happened during the incident. Jump to a moment in the media player s by selecting a word from the transcript.

When court-ready transcripts are needed, Axon Auto-Transcribe can produce the transcript in a fraction of the time and cost compared to human transcription alone.

Workflow

The following diagram depicts the workflow you follow when using Auto-Transcribe:

1. Open a piece of evidence and request an Auto-Transcript.
• Your agency must have Auto-Transcribe minutes.
• If your agency has Unlimited Auto-Transcribe minutes, all evidence uploaded to Axon Evidence is automatically Auto-Transcribed.
2. View the transcript on the evidence detail page.
3. Use Transcription Assistant to review, edit, save changes to, and download the Auto-Transcript.
4. Verify the transcript.
5. Share the transcript through evidence and case shares.

Auto-Transcribe can be used with any audio or video file type supported by Axon Evidence. Currently, Auto-Transcribe supports files up to 10 hours in length.

Accuracy

Axon Auto-Transcribe uses the best available speech recognition solution for public safety data, not only for accuracy but also to ensure equitable performance among diverse populations. Throughout its creation and development, we tested Auto-Transcribe on multiple variations of English, encompassing several local accents.

We use the highest industry standard for measuring accuracy—every letter of a word must be correct for us to consider it "accurate." On public safety data, Auto-Transcribe averages 80% accuracy, reaching levels in the high 90% range as the audio becomes clearer. Transcription Assistant makes it incredibly easy for authorized users to make corrections.

Microphone quality and recording environment are the two biggest factors in Auto-Transcript accuracy. During testing and development, we use assorted styles of body camera and interview room video to ensure that Auto-Transcribe can perform across different hardware and environmental variations.

Auto-Transcribe licensing

There are different types of Auto-Transcribe licenses your organization can use.

Starter Packs

As part of your Axon license, you can try out Axon Auto-Transcribe using a free Auto-Transcribe Starter Pack:

Auto-Transcribe features can only be used by users who have Pro licenses.

These minutes are added to an agency pool from which all users can draw. Unused minutes expire at the end of each calendar year, but the minutes available per license resets to the amounts shown above.

Auto-Transcribe plans

To continue using Auto-Transcribe after your Starter Pack minutes are consumed, you can choose between three Auto-Transcribe plans:

Unlimited Auto-Transcribe Add-On for law enforcement

With the Unlimited Auto-Transcribe Add-On, agencies have unlimited access to Auto-Transcribe for a flat per-user-per-month fee. With this plan, all evidence generated from Axon Body Worn Cameras, Fleet, Capture, and Interview Room are automatically auto-transcribed. Auto-Transcripts can be requested for recordings made on other devices and uploaded to Axon Evidence.

Auto-Transcribe Add-On for Axon Justice

This add-on is a flat per-user-per-month fee for prosecutors and defense attorneys using Axon Justice. Like the Unlimited Add-On, this plan auto-transcribes all Axon Body Worn Camera, Fleet, Capture, Interview Room, and Third Party Video Support recordings that are uploaded to Axon Evidence.

The Auto-Transcribe Justice Premier Add-On is included in the Axon Justice and Axon Justice Advanced plans.

A la Carte minutes

With A la Carte minutes, your organization purchases a set number of minutes, which are pooled within your agency and consumed by all officers who use Axon Auto-Transcribe. Unused minutes expire after one year.

The number of minutes your organization has remaining are displayed when a transcript is requested. Additionally, the System Usage dashboard shows the available and used Auto-Transcribe minutes for your agency. Users assigned to a Role with the View Unrestricted Evidence permission set to Any can view the System Usage dashboard.
