Delete tasks and reports
You can delete contributions, incidents, standalone reports, and associated cases in Axon Records if you have the required privileges and the records meet specific eligibility criteria.
Delete contributions
Users with specific privileges can delete contributions that have been added to an incident report. When a contribution is deleted, all information about the deletion, including the deletion reason, is recorded in the report's history.
Once a contribution is deleted, it is permanently removed and cannot be recovered. The only contributions that should be deleted are those that were created in error or are no longer needed.
A contribution can only be deleted if:
- The contribution was created by someone other than the original report author
- The contribution's narrative has NOT been edited
- If text is added to the narrative but later deleted, the contribution still canNOT be deleted.
- If any other report field has been updated, the contribution CAN still be deleted.
To delete a contribution:
- Find the contribution, either in the Agency Tasks inbox or the My Tasks inbox of the user who created the contribution.
- Select More actions [...] > Delete task.
- Select a deletion reason then select Delete.
Delete incidents and reports
Users with specific privileges can permanently delete an incident or standalone reports, as long as the report has not yet been finalized. If a case has been created for an incident report that is being deleted, authorized users can delete the associated case alongside the incident report. Additionally, authorized users can view the Deletion Log, which lists the Report IDs of all reports that have been deleted, as well as who performed the deletion and when.
Once a report is deleted, it is permanently removed and cannot be recovered. The only reports that should be deleted are those that were created in error or are no longer needed.
A report can only be deleted if:
- The report has NOT been finalized
- The Delete option does not appear for reports that have been finalized.
- If a report has been finalized and then the finalization reverted, it still canNOT be deleted.
- The report does NOT contain any finalized supplements (incident reports only)
- The report does NOT contain property items that are marked as "in police custody" or submitted
- The report is NOT linked to any incidents or reports
- The report can be deleted if these linked reports and incidents are first unlinked.
If a report you want to delete falls into one of the above categories, you cannot delete it and must expunge it instead. Additionally, to delete a record about a person, vehicle, etc. as part of a court-ordered legal process, you must expunge the report or incident rather than deleting it. For more information, see Expungements.
Delete incidents
Incident report drafts can only be deleted from the incident profile. To delete an incident report:
- Open the incident profile.
- Select the More actions > Delete incident.
- Select the checkbox to acknowledge the statements, then choose Delete permanently.
- If there are any issues preventing the deletion, a message will explain why the incident can't be deleted and what steps must be taken (if possible) before it can be deleted.
- For example, the incident may be linked to other incidents or reports, and you must unlink those items before you can delete the incident.
- If there are no errors, the incident is deleted, and the deletion is recorded in the Deletion Log.

Delete standalone reports
Non-incident reports, also known as standalone reports, can be deleted. If a standalone report is linked to an incident report, you must unlink it before you can delete it. Deleting a standalone report does not delete the associated incident report.
Standalone reports can only be deleted if:
- The report is unfinalized.
- The report does NOT contain any property items that are marked as in police custody or submitted.
- The report is NOT linked to an incident.
To delete a standalone report:
- Open the report in Report Writer.
- Select the More actions [...] menu in the report header.
- Choose Delete report.
- Select the checkbox to acknowledge the statements, then choose Delete permanently.
- If there are any issues preventing the deletion, a message will explain why the report can't be deleted and what steps must be taken (if possible) before it can be deleted.
- For example, the report may be linked to an incident, and you must unlink the report from the incident before you can delete it.
- If there are no errors, the report is deleted, and the deletion is recorded in the Deletion Log.

Delete cases
If a case has been created for an incident, and the incident report is deleted, the case is also deleted. If any case documentation (case tasks, case documents, case summary, etc.) have been created, those artifacts are also deleted.
Note that individual case documentation (documents, tasks, etc.) canNOT be deleted separately. This documentation can only be deleted if the entire case is deleted.
