Records preview release

This section includes information about upcoming features and updates that are available for testing in training environments. These are beta features, and all functionality may not be fully present or completely reliable.

Report Writer

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their training environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • You can now move arrest charges from a current incident to a past incident directly from the incident report in Report Writer, so past incidents stay updated with the latest arrest information for NIBRS compliance. Once the current report is finalized, Axon Records automatically creates supplements for both incidents for Records to review and finalize.

BOLOs

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their training environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • You can now create, manage, and search BOLOs (Be On the Lookout alerts) in Axon Records to flag people or vehicles of interest. Create a BOLO from an incident or a task inbox, add photos, and print a BOLO for sharing. Once finalized, the BOLO flag appears on the person or vehicle profile so you can find it through search, and it's automatically removed when you close the BOLO.
    • For more information about this new feature, see BOLOs.

Notifications

The following features will be available for all organizations to use in their training environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate them for your organization.

  • You can now view notifications from a new Notification Center that can be accessed by selecting the bell icon in the main navigation menu. Filter notifications by all or unread, and select a notification to open the report. By default, the Notification Center only includes shared report notifications.
    • Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support for assistance configuring the Notification Center to also include all email notifications configured for your organization.
    • For more information, see Notification Center.
  • You can now share a report directly from Report Writer by sending it to specific people, Command Hierarchy groups, or teams, either while working on the report or when you submit it. Recipients receive an email and a Notification Center alert, and you can check who a report's been shared with from the Share history tab in a report.
  • Axon Records and Axon Standards can now be configured so that your existing email notifications also appear in-app in the Notification Center.
    • For more information about the types of notifications that can appear in the Notification Center, see Rules and automations.

Case Management

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their training environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • This update will be automatically applied to all organizations who have enabled Advanced Sharing.
    • Incident, case, and investigation profile pages now display a Shared label in the header when the item has been shared with an external partner through Advanced Sharing. This label does not appear if the item has not been shared or if all shares have been revoked or have expired.

Records general release

This section includes information about upcoming features and updates that are available in all production environments.

Report Writer

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • Previously, pressing the Tab key while writing a narrative moved the cursor out of the narrative box to the next control on the page, making it difficult to indent paragraphs while drafting a report.
    • With this update, pressing Tab in a narrative inserts four spaces and keeps the cursor in place. You can continue to use Tab to nest items in bulleted and numbered lists and to move between cells in tables.

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their production environments on September 22, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • Previously, users could not embed photos directly within narrative text. Photos had to be referenced separately or attached outside of the narrative, making it difficult to create visual reports such as BOLOs or detailed incident summaries that require images alongside written descriptions.
    • With this update, users can now insert photos inline within narrative text across both Records and Standards. A new option on the narrative toolbar lets users select photos attached to the report and insert them directly into the narrative.
    • Inserted photos appear as thumbnails within the text and include a link to the Evidence details page in Axon Evidence. Photos can be removed from the narrative without affecting the original file in Axon Evidence. Printed narratives include the embedded photos.

Axon App

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • Text fields in Axon App reports now display the format indicated by the hint that was configured in Form Builder. This update ensures the Axon App functions the same as desktop Report Writer.

Calls for Service

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • In the Calls for Service inbox, calls can now be sorted using the following columns: CFS ID, Date & Time, or Incident Report
    • Select the column title once to sort the table by that column in ascending order, then select it again to sort in descending order. When sorting using the CFS ID and Incident Report columns, the table is sorted alphanumerically: letters are ordered alphabetically, then numbers in numeric order.

Task Inboxes

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • Now, when a report is marked as urgent during submission to the Records Review state, an Urgent stamp appears on the report in the Records Tasks inbox. Additionally, these urgent reports are listed at the top of the inbox. This update only applies to newly created reports; it does not impact reports created before this feature release.

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their production environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • You can now share Axon Records data with partner organizations that also use Axon Records, and in return, search and view the data they share with you.
    • Shared information can include people, vehicle, location, and organization profiles, plus previews of incidents, warrants, and other reports. Once your organization's sharing agreement is set up, users can turn on "Include partner agency results" while searching to view search results from your partners.
    • For more information, see Share partner data.

The following updates will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • You can now search for people by entering a date of birth (DOB) in the main search bar on the All and People search tabs.
    • Supported date formats include: M/D, MM/DD, M-D, MM-DD, M/D/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, M/D/YY, MM/DD/YY, M-D-YYYY, MM-DD-YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD.
  • You can now save search configurations (search terms, filters, sorting, etc.) to quickly re-run common search queries.
    • To create a saved search, first configure your search using filters, the search box, and other search options like sort order, and then save and name your search. When you return to search, you can choose a saved search from the dropdown near the search box to immediately re-run that search.
    • For more information, see Saved searches.

Printing

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • Export and Print options are now available for all reports that use the Report History drawer. Previously, these options were only available for incident reports.

Profiles

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • Users with the "Manage profile photos" privilege can now download person and vehicle photos from the profile.
    • To access this new feature, open the person or vehicle profile, select View all photos > Download. The image saves to your computer at its original size and resolution, and every photo download is saved to the audit log.

Case Management

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • You can now transfer an Active case to another unit’s Triage inbox without first unassigning the lead detective.
    • Previously, moving a case from Active in one unit to Triage in another unit required you to unassign the current detective and then transfer or the transfer appeared to work and then failed.
    • You can now open a case profile, select More Actions > Transfer Unit, choose the new unit, and transfer the case without selecting a replacement detective. The case appears in the new unit’s Triage inbox where it can be assigned to a detective.

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their production environments on September 22, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • When preparing a document package for sharing, reports and documents that have not been finalized are now grayed out and cannot be selected.
    • Each item displays its current status so you can see at a glance which documents are ready to share. You can still proceed with sharing finalized documents without being blocked by items that are not yet ready.

Administrator Console

The following feature will be available for all organizations to use in their production environments on September 9, 2026. Contact your Axon representative or Axon Support to activate it for your organization.

  • A new version of the Audit Log Tool is now available where, administrators can filter using multiple combined criteria at the same time, including date range, actors, targets, event types, and audit types. This update makes it easier for administrators to find the exact audit data they need in a single export, without manually filtering exported audit files or combining data from multiple files.
  • The Event Type filter in the new Audit Log Tool lets administrators view several new events:
    • Create/Update restriction classification: These events are recorded if a restriction classification is created or updated from the Restrictions tool in the Administrator Console.
    • Add privilege to team/Remove privileges from team: These events have always been tracked in the audit log but were only viewable when administrators exported an audit log for specific actors. With the new Audit Log Tool, these events now can be viewed from the Event type filter, even if the administrator does not know the specific actor who made the privilege change.
  • For more information, see Audit Log Tool.

Records resolved issues

This section includes information about upcoming bug fixes and resolved issues that will be released to all production environments.

Search

The following issues will be resolved on September 9, 2026.

  • Previously, incident search results could show missing or wrong roles when a person/vehicle appeared on multiple supplements. This issue has been resolved, and search results now show correct role information for all involved people and vehicles.
  • Previously, for organizations whose jurisdictional boundaries are all contained within a single time zone, the Date search filter could also return results from the previous night or the following day. This issue has been resolved, and Date filters now return results only for the selected date.

Printing

The following issue will be resolved on September 9, 2026.

  • For organizations that route reports using attribute groups, the Assigned District on printed reports and incidents now shows the correct facility name. Before this update, the field could be blank, show the wrong district, orshow a raw site code instead of the display name.

NIBRS

This section includes information about upcoming updates and bug fixes for NIBRS validation rules, errors, and submissions.

Louisiana organizations

The following update has been applied to the production environments of all Louisiana organizations.

  • An issue has been resolved that was affecting Louisiana NIBRS Group B incidents where required fields could not be completed. After a change to collect and submit incident data for Group B offenses the same way as Group A, some fields required for LIBRS index person and property (for example, Property Status) stayed hidden, and hard validation errors prevented supervisors from approving and submitting the report. Those fields are now visible and can be completed, so Group B reports can be submitted successfully.

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all Louisiana organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • Louisiana NIBRS submissions have been updated to use the field name officerActivity instead of officerActivityCircumstance, per a naming change required by the state (LIBRS). This does not change how activity codes are recorded in Axon Records — only the field name sent in the state submission file.

Michigan organizations

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all Michigan organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • An issue has been resolved where Michigan NIBRS reports could hide required victim details for victims linked only to a Group B offense. When a person victim was connected solely to a Group B offense that Michigan requires victim information for, demographic fields — including Infant Code for an age-0 victim, as well as age, race, and sex — were hidden, so the information Michigan expects in the MICR submission could be missing. These fields now display and are required for those victims, matching Michigan's reporting rules.
    • No action is required. The updated field behavior applies automatically on new and reopened reports.

Minnesota organizations

The following updates will be applied to the production environments of all Minnesota organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • An issue has been resolved where Minnesota NIBRS submissions for Otter Tail and Crow Wing counties were rejected by the state with CRS schema error 3708 ('Otter Tail' is not a valid enumeration value for CountyCodeSimpleType). The submission file now sends OtterTail and CrowWing, which match the BCA county codes.
  • An issue has been resolved where Minnesota NIBRS validation treated Incident To as required when checking that Report Date does not occur before the incident dates. When Incident To is left blank, it is skipped in that comparison, so the field is optional again.

North Carolina organizations

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all North Carolina organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • An issue has been resolved where North Carolina Group B arrest reports were submitted with IEPD version 2019.2 after Group A incident reports had already been upgraded to IEPD 2023.0. For agencies on the 2023 specification, Group B arrest reports now submit with IEPD 2023.0, matching Group A.
    • If your agency has already submitted Group B arrest reports under mixed versions, please contact Axon Support or your NIBRS Customer Support Specialist to have the affected submissions regenerated and requeued.

Ohio organizations

The following updates will be applied to the production environments of all Ohio organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • An Ohio NIBRS validation rule has been added for ORC 2919.13 so the victim's age must be NN (newborn/infant, under 24 hours old), matching the state requirement for this offense. A validation error now appears during report writing when the victim's age does not meet this requirement, preventing state rejections.
    • No action is required. The updated validation applies automatically.
  • The Ohio NIBRS validation rules for ORC 2907.05 and 2907.06 have been corrected so that the Victim-to-Offender relationship can no longer be Spouse (SE). This matches the existing rule already in place for ORC 2907.04 and helps prevent state rejections for these offense codes.

Oklahoma organizations

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all Oklahoma organizations on September 9, 2026.

  • An issue has been resolved where Oklahoma NIBRS submissions were rejected when Scar/Mark/Tattoo was set to Pockmark-POCKMARK because the submission file sent SCAR_POCKMARKS instead of the NCIC code POCKMARKS. Oklahoma returned "Scars & Marks is invalid for Suspect/Arrestee 01." The submission file now sends POCKMARKS with no SC prefix.
    • If your agency has already received this rejection, please contact Axon Support or your NIBRS Customer Support Specialist to have the affected submissions regenerated and requeued.

  • Previously, pressing the Tab key while writing a narrative moved the cursor out of the narrative box to the next control on the page, making it difficult to indent paragraphs while drafting a report.

    • For more information, see Saved searches.

Printing

The following updates will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • Previously, when printing a Standards report that includes a body diagram — such as Response to Resistance or TREND — the diagram was printed even when no body locations had been marked on it, resulting in a blank figure that took up space in the printout without conveying any information.
    • This behavior has been updated so that the body diagram is excluded from the printout when no locations have been marked. The body diagram still prints whenever at least one location is marked, and all other fields in that section are unaffected whether or not the body diagram is included in the printout.
  • Export and Print options are now available for all reports that use the Report History drawer.

Profiles

The following update will be applied to the production environments of all organizations on September 22, 2026.

  • Users with the "Manage profile photos" privilege can now download person and vehicle photos from the profile.

Axon DataStore

This section includes information about upcoming changes to the Axon Records and Standards DataStore.

Upcoming deprecations

  • DataStore administrators with access to the DataStore Access Control tools can now generate and manage their own access credentials from within the Administrator Console. To continue to streamline access management, Axon will deprecate legacy DataStore user accounts on September 30, 2026.
    • These legacy accounts are those that were created by the Axon Support team before the DataStore Access Control tools were released. Legacy accounts cannot be migrated and must instead be recreated from within the Administrator Console.
    • See DataStore Access Control for full instructions on creating and managing DataStore user accounts. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact your Axon representative or the Axon Support team.
  • To ensure a reliable connection, you must connect to the DataStore using your agency-specific server address: pus1ge1-[AgencyName].database.usgovcloudapi.net
    • You can find your exact server address in the DataStore Secret Generation tool in the Administrator Console. For more information about this tool, see DataStore Access Control - Secret Generation.
    • Connections to the following generic addresses (without an agency name) may fail and should not be used:
      • pus1ge1-axon-datastore-tx.database.usgovcloudapi.net
      • pus1ge1-axon-datastore-va.database.usgovcloudapi.net
    • If your connection is working today, no action is needed. If you're using one of the generic addresses listed above, update it to your agency-specific address to ensure continued connection to the DataStore. Please contact your Axon Support if you need assistance.
