This section outlines foundational updates that affect all users. This includes things like sign-in updates, user management, and account management.
Changes to Identity service API rate limits
Starting in May 2026, Axon is introducing per-agency rate limits on the Evidence Search API to ensure consistent search performance across all agencies and prevent high request volumes from a single integration from impacting others. Agencies that exceed the limit will receive an “HTTP 429 Too Many Requests” response with a Retry-After header indicating when to retry. Integrations that make high-volume or bulk search requests, such as pulling an entire evidence collection on a recurring schedule, should be updated to use incremental, filtered queries and implement retry logic with backoff.
Contact Axon Support before the rollout date if you believe your workflows may be affected. Specific rate limit thresholds will be communicated prior to release.

Changes to Axon Evidence search API rate limits
Axon will begin a phased reduction of rate limits across evidence search API. This change improves performance and system stability. Rate limits apply per client. To maintain uninterrupted access, update your clients to handle 429 Too Many Requests responses and respect the Retry-After header.

Improvement
Improved User and Group import experience
We redesigned the User and Group Import experience to provide administrators with clearer import results, persistent access to import status, and faster feedback for invalid CSV files.
After uploading a CSV file, administrators are directed to a new Import Result page that groups records into:
- Imported
- Skipped — no change
- Skipped — with errors (expanded by default)
Administrators can also download rows that failed to import as a CSV file. The downloaded file includes:
- All original columns
- An Import Status column with specific error details for each failed row
This allows failed records to be corrected and re-uploaded more efficiently.
We also improved validation for incorrectly formatted CSV files. If a CSV is missing required headers or columns, the system now displays the error immediately instead of processing the file first. This reduces unnecessary wait time and helps administrators fix and re-upload files faster.
Previously, import results and error messages were temporary and disappeared after leaving the page. The updated experience preserves the latest results and provides ongoing access to import status and error details.

AI-powered features
Features including the AI Era Plan tag (AI Era plan) use artificial intelligence to provide insights, recommendations, or analysis based on available data and user inputs. These outputs may include inaccuracies, limitations, or outdated information. These tools are designed to support—not replace—professional judgment, legal interpretation, and human oversight. Users are responsible for carefully reviewing and verifying AI-powered content before acting on it. Axon continually works to enhance AI accuracy, mitigate bias, and uphold ethical standards. Learn more at Axon AI.

Axon Evidence
Unless otherwise noted, new features and enhancements apply to the redesigned Axon Evidence experience. The legacy experience remains available and continues to receive maintenance updates, such as bug fixes and stability improvements. For information about upcoming changes to the legacy experience, see Coming soon.
Consistent event rendering in Case and Evidence Audit Trails
Event text inside Case and Evidence Audit Trail exports now uses the new consistent human-readable format (active voice, inlined user identity, (System) prefix, natural language).
Example:
- Before: User: John, Smith (Badge ID: johnsmith) | Case or Case Related Record Accessed
- After: User Smith, John (johnsmith) opened this Case
This update does NOT change: PDF headers, table columns, pagination, sort order, export flow, filenames, filters, or historical audit data.

Retention Categories
We've updated the retention category creation and edit page with new dropdown options that give admins clearer, more flexible control over retention settings.
New default and updated options: When creating a new retention category, the form now defaults to a 3-year retention period. Admins can set any duration from 1 day up to 99 years, and this can be changed at any time. This update only applies to newly created categories and existing retention category configurations are not affected.
99-year maximum: The retention duration field now validates input in real time. If a value exceeding 99 years (or the equivalent in weeks or days) is entered, an inline message will appear: "Retention can be set for up to 99 years." The form cannot be saved until the value is within the allowed range.

View Evidence Media permission for roles
Admins can now configure the View Evidence Media permission separately from evidence access permissions when setting up roles. This helps you preserve standard media access for new roles or restrict media viewing for transcript-based workflows while still allowing access to evidence details and transcripts. Existing roles will be updated automatically so users keep media access. New roles have View Evidence Media prohibited by default, so you must allow it if the role should support standard media review such as video playback, audio playback, thumbnails, and image viewing. Learn more at View Evidence Media permission for roles.

Resolved issues
- Mandatory metadata banner and restrictions clear immediately on save: Saving required metadata now immediately removes the mandatory-metadata banner and read-only restrictions, returning the file to full edit/management state per the user's permissions.
- Evidence Overview — Community Request Details button navigates correctly: On the Evidence Overview tab, the Details button in the Community Request section now navigates users to the Details tab and scrolls to the Source section.
- Evidence details page — Evidence action menu shows permitted actions for restricted roles: In the redesigned Axon Evidence, the action menu in the evidence details page now appears whenever the user has at least one permitted action and shows only the actions allowed by their role. Previously, the menu was hidden for users whose role had permissions including Share, Edit Evidence & Edit Date Recorded, Delete Evidence, and Audit Trail PDF all disabled, even when other actions like Download were still permitted.
- Evidence details page — Clear messaging when adding evidence to a processing case share: In the redesigned Axon Evidence, you'll now see a clear message in the evidence details page when attempting to add evidence to a case share that is still processing, instead of the action proceeding and failing later. This matches the legacy Axon Evidence behavior.
- Evidence details page — Open Case links in a new tab: In the redesigned Axon Evidence, opening a Case hyperlink in a new tab in the evidence details page now correctly opens the Case Detail page. Previously, the new tab redirected back to the evidence details page.
- Evidence details page - Map GPS coordinates on a single line: Latitude and longitude in the evidence Map widget now display on a single line, making them easier to read and copy.
- Fleet Video - Remove a secondary owner from the evidence details: Previously, once a secondary owner was added to Fleet Video evidence, users could not remove that assignment from the evidence details or Overview tabs in the redesigned Axon Evidence. This has been fixed and users can now clear the secondary owner directly from those tabs.
- Evidence details page — Edited metadata appears immediately after Save: In the redesigned Axon Evidence, in the evidence details page, edits to evidence metadata such as ID and Categories now appear immediately after you save. Previously, a page refresh was required to see the updated values.
Axon Auto-Transcribe
Foot pedal support
You can now pair a supported foot pedal in Transcription Assistant to control playback while editing a transcript. This enhancement helps you edit transcript more efficiently without switching between playback controls and the Transcription Assistant editor. See Foot pedal support to learn more.

Resolved issues
-
Community Request — View Request link opens the Portal Details page: Users reported that the "View Request" link would not directly open the request portal and would land the user on the View Requests table. This has been fixed and now brings the user directly to the Portal Details page for the associated evidence.
-
Community Requests — Restore pending triage status filter: Users can now filter community requests by pending triage on the redesigned Axon Evidence Community Requests page, matching the filter available on the legacy page. Pending triage surfaces requests that contain items awaiting supervisor review.
Axon Performance
Resolved issues
-
Resolved an issue where supervisors who had reviewed all available videos were still shown an "incomplete" warning in the dashboard and review summary email. The video review goal status now correctly treats this as a completed state.
Axon View
View Updates
- Android: 6.8.0
- iOS: 6.9.0
ABW Mini support
Axon View now officially supports Axon Body Mini (ABW Mini). You can use the app to manage core workflows with your ABW Mini camera, just as you would with other supported Axon body cameras. Update your Axon View app to the latest version to get started.

Case management
Case Agent (formerly Deep Freeze for early access users)
Case Agent (formerly Deep Freeze for early access users) is now available in the AI Era plan and will appear on the case details page in the redesigned Axon Evidence. Case Agent is an AI-powered experience that can reason over selected evidence in a case, helping investigators surface relevant details, identify connections, and review citation-backed results. This experience is designed to help investigators review case evidence more efficiently while keeping them in control of what evidence is included in the chat. See Case Agent overview, Use Case Agent, and Case Agent disclaimers to learn more.

New
Advanced Case Sharing
Advanced Case Sharing helps you collaborate with partner organizations by giving them controlled access to shared cases and evidence. Instead of relying on one-time downloads or copied cases, you can share case access through governed partner collaborations so recipients can work from current case information.
This helps reduce duplicate sharing work, keeps shared evidence easier to manage, and gives organizations more control over partner access throughout the collaboration.

New
Resolved issues
-
Bulk uploads to a case now correctly process new files when the selection also contains previously uploaded duplicates, so users no longer see "Upload 0 new files" or have their new uploads blocked.
-
Uploading evidence to nested case folders now works reliably for cases with large evidence volumes, and users will see a clear error message if a file validation step fails — eliminating the silent "Hasn't started yet" hang.
-
Users with the "Apply Access Class – Confidential" permission can now edit an evidence item's Confidential access class in the redesigned Axon Evidence, restoring parity with legacy Axon Evidence behavior.
-
Evidence checksums on Photobook PDF exports now display in hex format, matching the values shown in the audit trail, reports, and Evidence APIs so chain-of-custody verification is consistent.
Evidence Upload XT
Upload XT 2.16.0
Custom Metadata
Users can now provide mandatory metadata during evidence ingestion as part of the normal upload workflow in Upload XT.
- Mandatory fields — Upload tab — Agency-defined required metadata fields are dynamically rendered and validated at upload, ensuring required information is captured before evidence is submitted.
- Mandatory fields — Migration tab — Mandatory custom metadata is now also supported in the Migration tab, so agency-defined required fields can be configured as part of migration setup and applied consistently across migrated evidence.
- Additional metadata fields — Users can now configure and apply additional metadata fields (Tags, Notes, Description, Location) in the Upload tab, Migration tab, and via XTMT command-line parameters, XTO configuration files, and TSV input, ensuring evidence is uploaded with complete metadata accurately reflected on the Axon Evidence portal.
- Regex validation — Agency-configured formatting rules are enforced at entry, so only correctly formatted metadata values can be saved.
Access Class
Users can now set the evidence Access Class (Unrestricted, Restricted, or Confidential) before uploading evidence.
- Upload tab — Access Class can be selected per upload, and the value is passed through the ingestion flow so evidence is created with the correct access level on the Axon Evidence portal.
- Migration tab — Access Class can be defined at the migration operation level, applying a consistent access level across all evidence processed in that migration.
- XTMT — Access Class assignment is supported via XTMT, allowing users to define a single access level per XTMT execution.
Security and Privacy
- Secure log storage — Client logs and evidence metadata are now stored in secure, per-user protected locations. Sensitive information such as PII and CJI is no longer written to log files. These changes better protect agency data on shared or multi-user Windows machines.
- Session security — Active sessions are now revoked on user logout, preventing session reuse after sign-out.
Other Improvements
- Evidence owner — When two people share the same name, the badge number is now shown alongside the name to make it easier to identify the correct owner.
- Upload bandwidth — The upload bandwidth limit can now be configured up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps).
- TSV column handling — TSV column names (e.g., Path, Case, Owner, EvidenceID, Categories, RecordedOn) are now processed case-insensitively in XTMT, reducing formatting-related failures for agencies with column naming variations.
- CLI parameter handling — XTMT command-line parameters are now interpreted without strict case sensitivity, reducing avoidable errors for users running XTMT through scripts or manual command entry.

AI Case Search in Axon Justice
AI Case Search is coming soon to Axon Justice for organizations with Justice Premier Plus. Spend less time searching and more time solving cases. Whether your case is a handful of files or hundreds of images, videos, audio files, and documents; AI Case Search helps you quickly find relevant evidence that contains weapons, vehicles, apparel, objects, and drug paraphernalia—reducing the time spent manually sifting through case evidence. Instead of manually reviewing large amounts of evidence, you can review ranked results that point to the evidence most likely to matter for your case. AI Case Search can help you find key moments faster and support case review, preparation, and analysis.
If you would like to participate in the alpha release, contact your Axon representative. Learn more about AI Case Search.
Axon Community Request
Disposition Codes in Community Notifications
Community Notifications will soon display disposition codes for CAD events, giving users visibility into the outcome or classification of each dispatched call. This feature is available for agencies using the Unified CAD (UCAD) integration. Stay tuned for more details as this feature becomes available.
Assign devices to Groups
Administrators can assign devices to Groups in bulk with a CSV file or one at a time from device details page. This update helps organizations view and search for devices related to their own unit, and adds a Group filter in Device Inventory to make assignments easier to review. For organizations that use Evidence Groups, assigning devices to Groups can also support evidence access based on the device that captured the evidence.
If you would like to participate in the alpha release, contact your Axon representative. Learn more at Assign devices to groups.
