Rate Limiting for Axon Identity Services
Starting May 2026, Axon will begin a phased reduction of the rate limits across identity service APIs, including authentication, user management, role management, licensing, and agency configuration, in order to optimize performance and ensure system stability. Rate limits are applied on a per-client basis. To ensure uninterrupted access to our services, make sure your clients are properly handling 429 Too Many Requests responses, including respecting the Retry-After header.

Your users can now sign in with a passkey
Starting in late April 2026, passkeys will begin rolling out to all credential-based (non-SSO) organizations and will be available to all users by the end of May 2026. After signing in, users are prompted to enroll a passkey — using a fingerprint, face recognition, or a hardware security key. They can then sign in with a single gesture instead of entering a password and verification code. Passkeys are phishing-resistant and meet CJIS and NIST SP 800-63-4 multifactor authentication requirements.
For your users
- After signing in with their password and verification code, users see a prompt to enroll a passkey. They can set it up immediately, choose to be reminded in 7 days, or skip for 30 days.
- Users sign in by selecting their passkey from the browser autofill menu or by selecting Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in page — no password or verification code required.
- Users can register passkeys on multiple devices and manage them from Profile > Security > Passkeys.
- Password and verification code sign-in remains available as a fallback.
For admins:
- View and revoke individual passkeys from the user details page.
- Passkeys are on by default. Go to Security > Sign-In Policy to turn them off or adjust settings for your organization.
- Restrict allowed authenticator types: platform authenticators (such as fingerprint or face recognition built into a device) or roaming authenticators (such as a YubiKey connected via USB or NFC).
- Require attestation to validate the authenticator make and model during enrollment, for organizations with hardware compliance requirements such as FIPS 140.
Get started
Review your passkey settings in Security > Sign-In Policy before the rollout reaches your organization. Passkeys are on by default, so no action is required to receive the update.
Learn more about registration and sign in.
Availability: Begins rolling out in late April 2026; all organizations will receive the update by the end of May 2026.
Resolved issues
- On the Configure Role page, the descriptions for the following Command Hierarchy permissions have been updated:
- Access evidence in their Command
Allows a user to act on evidence (for example, view or edit) when the Evidence Group is set to their group or any subordinate group in the command hierarchy. - Access evidence uploaded by users in their Command
Allows a user to act on evidence (for example, view or edit) uploaded by users in their group or any subordinate group in the command hierarchy.
- Access evidence in their Command
- Fixed a bug where the text cursor jumped to the end of the Group Name input field after every keystroke. This affected both creating a new group and editing an existing group's name, making it impossible to edit text in the middle of the field. Administrators can now edit Group Names normally — clicking in the middle of the name and typing will keep the cursor in the expected position.
AI-powered features
Features including the AI Era Plan tag (AI Era plan) use artificial intelligence to provide insights, recommendations, or analysis based on available data and user inputs. These outputs may include inaccuracies, limitations, or outdated information. These tools are designed to support—not replace—professional judgment, legal interpretation, and human oversight. Users are responsible for carefully reviewing and verifying AI-powered content before acting on it. Axon continually works to enhance AI accuracy, mitigate bias, and uphold ethical standards. Learn more at Axon AI.

Axon Evidence
Unless otherwise noted, new features and enhancements apply to the redesigned Axon Evidence experience. The legacy experience remains available and continues to receive maintenance updates, such as bug fixes and stability improvements. For information about upcoming changes to the legacy experience, see Coming soon.
Attribute Search
Attribute search in the AI Era Plan uses natural language queries to find people in body-worn camera videos based on what they are wearing or carrying, helping users quickly locate relevant moments. Available in April to any AI Era plan customer in the U.S. or Canada upon request. Contact your Axon representative to enable access.

Mandatory Metadata
Administrators can now require specific custom metadata fields and categories to be completed before evidence can be uploaded, added to a case, shared, or downloaded. When required metadata is missing, evidence remains read-only and users are guided to complete fields through a banner and Overview tab notice; full access is restored once requirements are met.

Edit Location permissions
Organizations now have the ability to assign permissions to allow or prohibit a user from editing the evidence location. Prohibiting it will prevent any edits. This separates the permission out from the "Edit Evidence" permission. The default state for this setting is Prohibited.

Resolved issues
- Fixed multicam name and badge ID text alignment: When viewing multicam evidence, you will now see officer names and badge IDs properly left-aligned in the carousel, matching the expected design.
- Save evidence Title and ID edits with the Enter Key: You can now press Enter to save edits to the Title and ID fields on the evidence details page, restoring familiar keyboard behavior from legacy Axon Evidence.
- Navigate Directly to the Map tab from the Overview tab: You can now select the map or location section on the evidence details page Overview tab to go directly to the Map tab for a full mapping experience.
- Fixed an issue with the Recorded On and Uploaded On timestamps: The Recorded On and Uploaded On date/time fields on the evidence details page now correctly respect the organization’s 12-hour vs. 24-hour time format feature flag. Organizations with the 24-hour notation feature flag enabled will see timestamps displayed in 24-hour format (e.g., 14:30 instead of 2:30 PM).
Auto-Tagging
AI Auto-Tagging
AI Auto-Tagging is now generally available, so you can review suggested metadata for video evidence and categorize evidence more efficiently. AI Auto-Tagging uses multicam signals and video transcripts to suggest metadata that you can review and apply as needed. Learn more about AI Auto-Tagging.

Case management
Resolved issues
Fixed an issue where adding evidence to a case without sharing it would incorrectly generate a new version of the Evidence Share Log.
Draft One
Draft One suggestions
Now, Draft One analyzes the evidence items you select for your draft narratives and prompts you with questions you can answer to provide additional details about the incident--such as what specific actions you took and why, or key details not captured in the evidence audio. This analysis and the suggestions provided by Draft One result in a higher quality and more comprehensive first draft, making it easier for you to revise and complete the narrative before copying it and submitting it in your reports.

Auror + Axon Outpost camera integration
License plate reads from Outpost cameras now flow directly into Auror alongside other LPR data, giving retail teams a unified, real-time view of vehicle activity without changes to their existing workflows. For retailers already using Auror, this is the fastest path to standing up a full LPR program. Alerts include contextual information such as photos of individuals associated with vehicles of interest and past offending history. Built-in ROI measurement makes it easier to demonstrate prevention value to leadership.
Learn more at Auror + Axon Outpost ALPR integration.
Business Request (Alpha release)
Create a Business Request in Axon Community Request to request evidence from businesses. For Auror-connected retailers, the request is routed through Auror’s Evidence Request workflow; for other retailers, users can send the request using contact details they provide.
